Most Otocinclus will grow to around 2” or less and eat a wide range of algae
http://badmanstropicalfish.com/profiles/profile76.html
I got one of these little guys as one of the first three fish to enter my planted aquarium, and haven't viewed algae in my tank since. I've done the same for several of my other tanks and not one has died, though they look perkier in groups. They are great, though mine seem to clean the tank at night and disappear during the day. Amazing little fish!
I have one oto in my 10g tank and I haven't had algae since

Oto is the best plant leaf cleaner and will remove almost all algae from it without damaging the leaf. It will ignore the grown algae but will eat young algal growth and by doing that will keep the algae very low

Otocinclus are diligent algae eaters,
http://www.otocinclus.com/articles/algae.html
This algae can't be scraped off with a fingernail. You must use a razor on glass, or a scrubby pad meant for acrylic tanks if you want to take this off.
Most rasping fish (otocinclus, plecos) cannot eat this algae as it is really fused onto the surface.
